Sailing wouldn't be much fun if we controlled the wind and the waves.

  1. Ah, this is beautiful. A reminder that so much of life is the art and grace of responding to life.

  2. Oh, I don't know. That could be fun, too, but it wouldn't be much of an adventure, would it?

  3. This is another aphorism that would make a terrific combination with photography! True, the waves and winds are beyond our control....we can only control our moves : )

  4. This is so very true, Marty. We'd bore our selves to death with our obsessive predetermination of everything.

  5. Someone we need to go where life is taking us :) I like this sentiment - it kind of frees us to just 'go with the flow'.

  6. Very true, Marty and... "it don't mean a swing if it ain't got that swing..."

  7. Like a bubble on the waves were driven towards the shoals of our dreams and are pushed shoreward towards whatever fate we find we have. This is what I like about such aphorisms as the one mentiopned above.

  9. ...so true, and in similar logic, that's why kids are hooked onto computer games... (lesson learned: we are on the same boat with our kids when we do sailing and philosophical contemplation...:):)

  10. I guess in order to have fun, we've got to learn to seize the moment right? SPONTANEITY!

  11. I like that one! Really makes you think about why things happen.

It maybe bad luck for someone going on a walking to get bad wind but great for a sailor on a lake, but again terrible for the fisherman who was planning on going fishing that day...

  12. I agree. The adventure of life is like sailing in a small ship. We can adjust the sails and rudder but the wind and waves are mostly in control. Reaching our goals, changing them when the situation proves they are unobtainable, recovering from unexpected hardships, succeeding when it seems all is lost; in the end we have much less control than we believe. This makes life scary but it also makes it exciting and enjoyable.

  14. true and beautiful ,wind is here to reveal the strength hidden in us,not to be controlled,
if it happens will be quite boring and joyless.
