Nothing cures a bad mood faster than having no sympathy for yourself.

  1. Or merely looking around you. It doesn't take much seeking to find someone who is in a far worse position than you.

  2. I'd agree that most of the time the cure for me is to get working on something. Dwelling on it certainly makes the day dreary. However, there is the odd time that recognizing I'm in a bad mood lets me know that I need some 'special' time. So I treat myself the way I might treat my wife when she is in a bad mood: some music, some reading, a glass of wine, maybe even a piece of chocolate... and the make-over is complete :)

  3. a lot of times i've been gifted with the ability to take a minute and start my day over in my head, but on those times that doesn't work, a quick nap helps :)

  6. So true but all things change given time. Like yun yi I learned how to just be with my own negativity until it passes.

  7. Dropping my self pity and having a coffee seems to work for me, if there is no coffee, I pity myself for having no coffee, and the cycle repeats itself.

  10. I like this one. When I'm in a bad mood, I go off by myself (no sense lashing out at someone) and, after allowing myself one full minute to wallow in self-pity, count my blessings. I'm a fortunate being and I know it. Sometimes I just need to remind myself.

  11. Exactly. Bad moods are caused primarily by self-pity... and overvaluing other's opinions leads to self-pity and post-nasal drip.

  12. So true. And an attitude of gratitude works wonders as a mood brightener. :)

  14. Very true & I'm with Judie except make mine a Crown Royal Black on the rocks...that clear liquor seems to induce rage if I'm in a bad mood.

Then I sleep like a new born baby. :)

  16. I Quote: (Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous)

'Nothing guarantees immunity against the first drink so much as intensive work with another alcoholic'

Idea is if we get busy with other people, we stop focussing on our own self-obsessive misery! It works too :)

  17. This really reminds me of a favorite saying a friend of mine has: "When you are all wrapped up in yourself, it makes for a small package."

I think the cure for self-pity is gratitude. I know it keeps me humble and focused on what's really important in life.

    Take care,

    Melinda
