Well said. Many intelligent people lack what it takes to be able to discern what really counts. Until one has had some life experience they have no wisdom. As someone once said intelligence speaks; wisdom listens.
Read many books on teaching children not give assurances of an excellent father. Take a course of adm. company does not guarantee success in business. We need knowledge to cultivate our character, wisdom and capacity for action to lead a happy life.
I like to think that wisdom bestows upon us a knowledge that our intelligence is limited by what we know or have experienced. This knowledge then opens us to new experiences and to new ideas.
I like this one, but I must have heard this before somewhere but I cannt recall. Anyway, trailblazing in the blogosphere with these aphorisms of marty’s is equivalent to seeing the truth in the naked light of day: something to be a bit wary of unless it dazzles you by mistake.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can lead a child to school, but you can't make him think.
ReplyDeleteAh thanks. I feel better now. But what about things I can never learn? Like rock science?
ReplyDeleteall the intelligence in the world never got me very far. and yet the little wisdom i have has taken me place. funny how that works

ReplyDeleteInteresting idea!
ReplyDeleteI agree whole-heartedly. I also don't know what else to say. Something's are better understood when simply put. You have mastered that art.
ReplyDeleteExcellent. I have said this a little differently. "Curiosity leads to learning. A wise person who puts into action lessons learned." Thanks Marty.
ReplyDeleteBoth of which are a dying breed... :(
ReplyDeleteI think a wise person is one who can keep on learning.

ReplyDeleteWell, that leaves me out on both counts then. :P

ReplyDeleteI don't get this one. I'll never stop learning.
ReplyDelete..and a wiser person who is one who learns from others mistakes.
