Beware of those who aren't content with soup and bread.

  1. Agreed! If the simple things in life can't make you happy, NOTHING will make you happy!

  2. Hey Marty, I read this and the first thing i thought of was my boss...lol...actually lots of people i know are not content with the simple life and will tread on others and rip through them to keep getting more material gain.
It is of great importance to truly know the core of those you are surrounded by, or then your definitely the next person to get run over if they find a bigger diamond in someone else's hands.
God i wanna use your aphorism and write my next blog about it...love it :)

  3. Sorry, but I'm not content with soup and bread. ;) I have no problem with people who want more from life, either. How they get those things, though? That's the issue. Hard work? No problem. Stepping over other people? Problem. There is a lot of gray between aspiration and insatiability.

  5. NP, I agree with the aphorism and also with Janene. 1. If people can't be happy with simple things, they're unlike to be happy with fancy things, like gold plated toilet seats. 2. And it's okay to want more, so long as the wanting doesn't take you over.

  6. If the measure of life is "happiness", then greed carriers are true losers. They may "think" they are happy but they are not, because happiness cannot be true without feeling of "content".

  7. My husband and I lead a very simple lifestyle. We love making homemade soup and bread. We love growing some of our own food. We don't need or want elegant fare or an elegant lifesytle. We clearly understand that for us to have more would amount to a huge investement of our time spent chasing the almighty dollar -- no way! no how! That's not for us.

  8. I have seen a phrase I have adopted similar in affect. May you and yours have enough.

  9. Soup and bread needs wine and olives. Then I'm content. But I guess that's because I need more than just the basic nourishment. Which I daresay your little saying implies is what I should be happy with. However, I cam relatively comfortable being greedy right now. ;)

  10. Ah, but what kind of soup and what kind of bread? They're aren't always simple but I get it. I'm making a minestrone from scratch today :-) P.S. re: my photo from my blog, I give you permission to print a copy for yourself.
