Like Adam and Eve we have to find out everything for ourselves.

  1. I have to disagree with this one. There are times that it seems we have to learn for ourselves, but the world would be much better if we simply learned from others mistakes. If we would be able to listen to our elders, understand that they have experienced more than we have, and learn from their experiences we would be able to grow and mature faster and lose less time making mistakes.

  2. I agree to some extent, as the basic 'desire to learn' has to come from oneself. Thought-provoking.

  3. There are some things that we do need to just take for granted, and some things we need to find out for ourselves. The problem is knowing the difference.

  6. we have a mind which is a wonderful machine ,designed like a desert which is always ready to absorb the each drop of knowledge like a trusty for centuries.

we draw an outline with our observation, and put colors with our experiences, some time picture is not perfect, but tears of regrets makes it even worse, wise correct it with constant and stable effort, and enjoy the all stages of doing it which is greatest part i think.

  7. Simply a Profound thought that "we have to find out everything for ourselves' - that's the beauty of learning and, perhaps unlearning! Grateful.

  8. Right on! If we could learn from other people's insights we'd all be prophets and wise-men/women. No, we have to find out everything for ourselves, I agree.

  9. Hmmm...the comments here are interesting...'Learning' is not what I thought of when I read 'finding out' in your aphorism mp.

  10. As we grow in maturity, we can learn from other people's experiences and mistakes. However, we first learn by making our own mistakes and by analyzing (hopefully) our own experiences.

  11. A good excuse for doing anything forbidden (adolescents love it) and an encouragement for adventurers risking it all to find out the unknown...

  12. I would add... figure ourselves out.
We can only start to fully live our lives after we truly got to know ourselves.

PS: I really like your aphorisms. Great job!

  13. We never seem to learn from other people's mistakes or experiences, do we? :)

  14. Sometimes "finding out for yourself" can go badly wrong - for example failing to understand the rules of probability can lead to a whole range of superstitions and other false conclusions about the world becoming "confirmed."

  15. It is the height of stupid, but alas, so true. Too bad we couldn't have listened to our parents and said, "Why yes, that sounds right." But human nature is contrary. I only hope that as a society, we can learn from history! But not too sure....

  16. I'm with Janey, it is idiotic of me not to learn from watching others, but, alas, I must take my turn sticking my hand in the fire. Twice.
