I get what you're saying, but I think all opinions are true. That doesn't mean they can't conflict with someone else's. And imagine if everyone had the same opinion on something. My, how boring that would be!
This may be true in some things but if my opinion is that 2+2=5 it doesn't change the truth that 2+2=4. There are some things that either are or are not regardless of my opinion.
Hm...I guess that's why the world is so complicated now, so much so on the verge of extinction: The only truth is that we have so many different opinions and each holds on tight to his own being THE TRUTH...including this one, my apology....:):)
Opinions are the substitute for truth. Opinions are based on any available conditioning or propaganda. Opinions cost nothing and are consequently worth nothing. They can be given away or sold in books or other printed materials. Opinions are sometimes mistaken for truth in the same way that sticks are mistaken for snakes. Good aphorism.
I was raised/indoctrinated to believe there was such a thing as the absolute truth but I grew up and formed a different opinion. I realized all answers to morality, theories, doctrines, religious beliefs, etc. are determined from an individual's perspective.

I like your aphorim and I like Count Sneaky's comment in response to it as well.
wow..
ReplyDeleteand the more opinions you get, the more fun you have :)

Well, that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it!!

ReplyDeleteAgreed! Subjectivity will always be there. Thus the beauty of a rose is different for all...Liked this one :)
ReplyDeleteThis aphorism certainly proved it for me marty: "No man is an island in Manhattan."

Yes, and sometimes painfully so...
ReplyDeleteYou only think there is no true opinion, because you are not blessed with my opinions, they are of course the true ones.

ReplyDeleteIts Complicated...well, thats my opinion :)
ReplyDeleteThis is an opinion: "If you haven't got an opinion you may as well be an empty chair!"
ReplyDelete(An old echo of Manhattan in the spring, and old pictures of bananas at MOMA's cafe.)
Simply Profound as always Marty. Truth is well ahead of any opinion!

An opinion may or may be technically true but for that person, it's their truth in the moment.
ReplyDeleteFact is true. Opinion is somehow false.
ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as objectivity; "objectivity" is simply a standardized subjectivity.

I love this one! I'm going to chew on it for awhile.
ReplyDeleteThis is essentially the aphorism of the day, for me! All opinions are in a way true and false at the same time. Loving the dichotomy.
ReplyDeleteWow- well said! This aphorism should be flying on banners on every street corner and maybe there'd be fewer wars...
