Language-a mirror in front of a window.

  1. Hmmm does this mean we only understand what we hear said by what our own position on the subject is??
Not sure I get this one

  2. The backwards view of a mirror through a pane of glass. It makes everything backwards, and a little confusing. Would definitely explain language barriers, or miscommunications. I think you mean it always reflects back on us, what we say.....
I need to be more careful with my words for sure. :-)

  4. language is a tool for communication. it is the window to the world outside of ourselves. it is the mirror which reflects who you are. everything we say shows the world who we are. this only shows the power that language gives us.

  5. Yes, but is the window open, and is it summer still out there while one is in here? And is it all about Esperanto or not English after all?

  7. Hmmm this one gives me trouble.. Is the mirror facing inward or outward. Am I in the room or outside the room looking in. Thought provoking. Thank you for the meditation.

I have missed your aphorism these last few days. I hope all is well.

  8. I love this one. Where is the observer? That's my first question. So many directions to go in!

Yep. Really like this one. Writing it on the wall to ponder. :0

  9. Get your quantum on, baby! I love it, especially as a writer. also love what Milo said. Language is so wonderful, but as a mirror before a window, not to be taken too seriously, too rigidly...all is shifting, and language lets us know...

  11. Marty--I just left a comment on stevemp's blog that relates to language and the meaning each of us draw from words.

I wrote that words, like most art forms are very subjective; we bring into them our perceptions, our experiences, our expectations, etc. So very much, language is a reflection of each of us.

It's so nice to be back and visiting your blog. I've certainly missed it.
