  4. A pure dream precludes the real event and imagination spurs us to attain more than we are told to expect from reality.
Life is often accompanied by nightmares and dreams that only shadow reality.
Your ‘everything is real as it happens’ as opposed to ‘a dream’ hangs on the answer to the question, ‘exactly when did the dream occur?’
The only dreams of any worth occur before the event. The rest are merely entertainment while we sleep including the nightmare.
We all like the occasional thriller and the ability to wake up to real life in the morning.

The reality for some is the life they must lead cannot compare to your worst nightmare.

I have had a bad dream recently, [ I've let the past and future impinge on the Now.]
