Beliefs And Phantoms

Arguing which belief is true is like arguing which phantom is real.

  1. Great aphorism, Marty. What interests me most about people is what lies beyond their beliefs.

  2. Agreed. Everyone have different opinion based on their experiences and they might be right from their point of view. We shouldn't judge them and force them to change their views for anyone.

  3. I have to admit, there are times when I meet people with much different beliefs than I do. Instead of judging them, I just wonder how they came to believe what they do. As Shainee said, it's usually a matter of experience.

  4. Sometimes when you take the belief out of the human, all that is left is a bag of nerves.

    1. Bound to make them nervous - trying to take their beliefs out! Mind you, what should be left is opinions, knowledge, and questions, to name but a few. But 'bag of nerves' certainly sums up the occasional residue. Nice one uma.

  5. Indeed, ultimately subjective and an idea unavailable to scientific enquiry.

  6. Ah, my friend and fellow aphorist you and I are two trains running on the same track. It is hard to understand why belief takes the place of proof or lack of proof so easily in the human mind. Count Sneaky.

  7. Kind of hard to prove isn't it...?

  8. I think we all have beliefs of some sort, even if it doesn't match up to others. The main thing, is to know what you believe in and why BUT be ready to change if you find that one day you may be wrong. Nobody wants to stand on shifting stand.

    1. Very very important point,RPD. Questioning beliefs is something religious leaders are not famous for promoting..

  9. Both arguments are equally silly.

  10. Excellent aphorism, Marty! The truth of any belief is in the idea of the beholder and it's fruitless to argue otherwise.

  11. Nicely summarising the key difference between a belief and a fact! :)

  12. But surely phantoms are unreal by definition. However, a belief can represent truth/reality or fantasy/fiction, among other things. A belief is a state of mind - with no external reality of its own. Right?
