My daily aphorisms. Reflections on life, death, beauty, change, love, happiness, etc., written in a poetic and whimsical style.
I can't imagine calling it living if nothing is taken in. Our senses are designed to be portals into our innermost being - if we allow them to be penetrated and interpreted with grace and truth. I would imagine that there are many whose lives have been painful enough to block out the world in sheer self-defense - but in blocking out potential harm, we can also block the good. Conversely, if we allow our sensations to rule our minds and reverse our better judgement, we teeter on the opposite brink. Balance here, as always?
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how people think that feeling = bad things. Every bit of it is good. I love every inch of it. From happiness to loss. I love crying during the sad parts of movies, allowing it all to wash over me as much as I enjoy laughing at something hilarious.
ReplyDeleteReflective and insightful Marty, as always. You have often written about Nothing. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Marty. That's how we know we're alive.
ReplyDeleteFor life to have meaning, a person needs to feel, no matter if the feeling is interpreted as negative or positive, you’re not truly alive if you have no feelings.
ReplyDeleteLife is "nothing" anyway: witness the slow energy death of the Universe ahead!
ReplyDeleteI know someone who has chosen to "feel nothing" versus dealing with emotional pain. But disconnecting and feeling nothing comes with a price. He is not living, he is existing. Sometimes it takes courage to feel. But in the end, that is the healing path and, I believe, the richer life

ReplyDeleteHow true, Marty. Life ceases the moment you stop feeling.
