My daily aphorisms. Reflections on life, death, beauty, change, love, happiness, etc., written in a poetic and whimsical style.
What a enlightening statement!
ReplyDelete...Or a failure to be appreciated? Just loving the aphorisms NP.
ReplyDeleteIt is awesome NP, it might even be life changing for me.

Also a factor of being comfortable with your own lot I reckon.

This is true but sometimes there are obstacles.
ReplyDeleteSometimes loneliness comes from emotional problems.
Being abused, especially early in life may be a factor.
Introverts feel more comfortable being alone but this leads to loneliness.
I think sometimes it can even be from failure to appreciate oneself. I'm thinking of those I've known who were depressed and could not see their own value. They would isolate themselves and feel great loneliness. Which would then deepen the depression and so on.
ReplyDeleteLoneliness is failure to be appreciated by others, but is perhaps partially caused by a failure of an individual to appreciate others in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI tend to believe loneliness is a state of mind, I think you can be alone but not feel lonely.
ReplyDeleteI'm lonely, i like being lonely sometimes, other times I'm lonely because circumstance don't allow me t be otherwise but most certainly it doesn't mean I'm not able to appreciate others. It sounds like a saying from someone who's really frustrated. I'll also agree with what John and Gina have said.
ReplyDeleteGood one.
ReplyDeleteThe toughest one for a while.
Or maybe it's a narrow viewpoint brought about by being in the wrong place.
ReplyDeleteIn which case - get out and find people.
Travel - buy a small bag, pack it half full and no more - and go find people that make you want to shout from the rooftops that these are good people to know.
Something like that.
Of course, the aphorism is correct - because in all of us there is something to appreciate
ReplyDeleteStill,...
I'm not sure how I feel about this one. People are lonely for many reasons. But if they recognize the need for companionship and don't take action, then I guess it is a failure.
ReplyDeleteGreat though. It hits really close to home for me.
ReplyDeleteSadly one can be alone when with people. It takes "you" to step forward and care to end the loneliness.
Or perhaps - a failure to appreciate one's SELF?
ReplyDeleteI'd say loneiness kills the enthusiasm to appreciate others.
ReplyDeleteLonlyness is a holliday from other's interference.
ReplyDeleteThere are different kinds of loneliness, I think. Sometimes, it's a failure to appreciate others or oneself, but sometimes, at least in my profession, it's from caring too much. The unexpected death of a patient is one of the loneliest places I know.
ReplyDeleteGood aphorism, Marty, and there is much truth to it. Failure to appreciate others is one cause of loneliness, perhaps a primary cause. Another reason for loneliness is guarding one’s emotions so closely that you inadvertently isolate yourself, thereby becoming lonely.
ReplyDeleteI was lonely once...and then I adopted a kitten.
