Love this one, Marty! Mao (I know he was notorious monster but he also said something witty) once said: if you want to know the flavor of a pear you must taste it by yourself.
ReplyDeleteGreat aphorism. Knowledge impacts experience, but can't substitute for it. The best way to learn is to experience things for oneself.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, in fact I think you've basically summed up the entirety of science in one simple phrase. Also this metaphor runs deep - pun intended - while there is such a thing as reality, it is sometimes watery and can be affected by the motion of the oars that test it.
