My Foolish Beliefs

Forgive my foolish beliefs, as I forgive your foolish beliefs.

  2. Brilliant! This sort of wisdom levels the playing field of judgmentalness. If everyone practiced such humility, judging others and being judged would become things of the past.

  5. Yeah, I agree, sort of. I know exactly what you're getting at, but do beliefs need "forgiving"?
As an atheist, I get myself into all sorts of highly enjoyable arguments on the subject of belief, but I've never felt the need to forgive someone for theirs, nor solicit it for mine. Try to understand maybe, empathise with, possibly, but the only things that need forgiving are the actions justified by them.

As ever, thought provoking stuff, cheers.

  6. "Perhaps in the eyes of God we are all heretics" (not sure who originally said this). Nice one.

  7. My favourite argument against the existence of God is from the sadly late, very great Douglas Adams - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmpP73-SHPQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player

  8. This quote reminds me of a part of the Lord's Prayer:
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
But we shouldn't judge that our beliefs are always less foolish than others.

  9. Everyone believe in something foolish, the most foolish of them all would be to think you are always right.

  10. If we are our beliefs and accept our foolish part then it's easy to accept other people's foolish parts :-)

  11. Excellent, Marty. Forgiveness as acceptance. Accept others as they are, not as you want them to be. Another version of "do unto others."

  12. This made me smile. Especially when I try to imagine it being spoken by anyone in Washington.
