My daily aphorisms. Reflections on life, death, beauty, change, love, happiness, etc., written in a poetic and whimsical style.
I believe most of our lives are not under our control but taking chance into account there is no predetermined path.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the name or label that we give our path in life it is only important to remember to enjoy life itself.
ReplyDeleteVaticinium ex eventu, in other words.
ReplyDeleteAND the strange things that happen totally out of the blue, too! :-)
ReplyDeleteI've had a few twists and turns that felt too strange to be random. When friends would ask, "what are the chances?" I'd say "apparently 100%... because it happened." But whether Chance or Destiny, I am grateful for the strangeness.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting question, Marty. What a terrific aphorism! The only real control we have is our own actions. The only real guarantee in life is this moment, right now. To believe that we have ultimate power over our lives is to assume that we also control everything and everyone around us; that's why egoism leads to failed expectations and tremendous disappointments. You can fool yourself into thinking you have it all, then walk out your front door, and be hit by a Mack truck. Life is a humbling experience. Mines' been full of surprises, a weird mix of carefree joy and abandon, carnal pleasure, soaring spirits, personal triumphs, mind-blowing insights, as well as times of exquisite pain, despair, and sadness, with lots of calmer moments in between. For now, I'm just enjoying the ride.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be reading your blog again NP! I've been away from the blog-world for a while. We create our destiny, but only to a certain extent... Chance also plays a hand :-)
ReplyDeleteVery aptly expressed, Marty!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I put my trust on God's plan for me, and try my best to make the best out of it...:)
ReplyDeleteI don't see it that way, but others do. Destiny and Fate are the names I give when opportunities arise out of the blue, but I chose whether to take those opportunities or not.
ReplyDeleteI guess if some people need to label things destiny to make it easier to understand, so be it. I must admit, there have been a few things that have happened to me that have felt like destiny. Don't know why, though. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteWell...at least we don't have to wait forever to get the result.
