The Spirit Of Adventure

Travel doesn't become adventure until you leave yourself behind.

  1. Yes, I think that is true; however, you can only leave yourself behind so long. Ultimately, no matter how much you travel or how far you go, you always take YOU with you! ;0)

    Nice Aphorism...

  2. Getting lost to find oneself....is what this aphorism made me think of :)

  3. Very true, I love traveling to places where I do not understand the language, to communicate one has to forget one's own language and rely on a whole different set communicating skills that rely more on our shared humanity than understanding language that can be used in a way clouding our humanity.

  4. Love this one. Once in a while one should allow oneself to have the "luxury" of not following the "usual path".

  5. Yes, to the path least traveled to find a missing part of ourselves. Happy trails to you.

  6. Maybe if you leave the person you THINK you should be behind. I know I carry around too much baggage. Trips are so much more fun when I pack light.

  7. I think that goes for a lot of things in life. We can't "give" ourselves to creativity, learning, parenting, or any other kind of experience, until we have learned to let go of ego. Or at least SOME of it!

  8. If I left myself behind, I wouldn't have anyone to talk to!!!

  9. Why carry a lot of extra, useless baggage with you...
like your real self? Travel is pretending you know more than you really do. My best.

  11. Hmmm... I agree, although don't leave your free spirit and good humour :)

  12. I agree with Judie. If I left myself behind, who would I share the experience with? :) But I find whenever I travel it's always an adventure. I'm there, but not running the show. Nice.

  13. "Travel doesn't become adventure until you leave yourself behind." Nice, but no donut, as I have found that travel does not become an adventure until you lose your passport in Bangkok.

  14. Your aphorism brought this quote to mind:

"When you travel alone, you really leave yourself behind. That self is made up of your personality, which is a product of your environment and the people around you. Strip all that away, add in some challenges and some new people, and you’re left with the only choice you have: to be authentic." -- Cassandra Damiris

  15. I like this but, I also have one...that you always take your problems with you if you are with the wrong person...so go with the right one, LOL

  16. I try, but my selves hunt me down. And then I never hear the end of it. ;-)
