I used to be a gloomy seeker of gloomy truths until tragedy made me light-hearted.

  3. ...true, "tragic heroes" are reserved for our literature, for most of us, we are seekers of comedy or at least a happy ending, human nature dictates that. But therein lies the difference, light-hearted like "perhaps I should be like everybody", or light-hearted like "who cares" with a smile!

  7. This is amazingly true, NP. When I lost my brother in a tragedy, I thought my life was over, should be over. But through his death, somehow I gained a deeper respect for life.

  9. I've sometimes ruefully thought that misery/pessimism is a luxury we can hardly afford. Tragedy, I guess, cures that extravagance :)
