The future can't be seen even with the most powerful telescopes.

  2. I wouldn't like to see that myself, it's so much important to think about it and imagine what it will be like. Discoveries we know wouldn't have been made if men knew all about the future, I bet.

    Kiss you Marty!

  3. The most powerful telescopes only lend themselves to seeing further in the past.

  4. Good aphorism. I don't believe it's possible to predict the future by means of divination. I do believe it's possible to examine what's going on in some scenarios and surmise which outcomes may be the most likely to present in the future.

  6. Good one. I like the comment about seeing further into the past. It really sums it up.

The more we plan ahead or try to predict what is coming in the future, the more we miss out on the present, which very soon becomes the past.

  7. Hmmm... I predict another aphorism is in your future. I'd even bet on it. :) Still, you're right, one can never be 100% certain what the future will bring. For good or bad, that depends.

  8. "My interest is in the future because I'm going to send the rest of my life there." Charles F. Kettering (1876-1958) Your aphorism and Charlie's about sum it all up.

  9. I think it is possible to see elements of the future. I also believe that God can show us or tell us things about the future. But at the same it is true, as many have said, that there is always an element of surprise. Also, as many of said, Thank God! It's much more exciting, when we don't know exactly what is coming.

We need to plan for the future, but live in the present.

  11. This is so very true! If it were not true, my son would never have been in the Safeway on 1-8-11.

  13. Very true Marty, especially when it comes to your own personal future....but the history can provide an insight into what may happen in the future (regarding politics and the demise of countries and regimes)

  16. I remember thinking once that the only thing that's sure about the future is that it will come. It's interesting that we can get so caught up in the past (usually with regret) and in the future (so often with worry) and yet, it's only the present that we can truly see.

  17. God is really good. He gave us the sun, the moon, and the stars, everything- crystal clear for our own benefit. However he chose to let the future depend in our hands. We have to work for it. Even then, we can't see what's at the end of our struggles.

  18. The future is ours for the making. What fun would it be to know everything...

  19. Always inspiring & lively Marty. We gradually try to figure out our own vision given that "The future can't be seen even with the most powerful telescope"

  20. I love the astonomy aspect to this one...

The greatest telescopes can see into the past, so to speak, by finding extremely distant things whose light has taken billions of years to get to earth. That's a pretty incredible look into the past, but nothing can see the future. Such amazing hindsight science gives us...
