The Rainbow Laughed

When I told the rainbow what its colors meant, it laughed.

  1. Because it was only seven of the trillions you could see!

  2. I really, really love this one, Marty. It reminds me of the very first passage in the Tao Te Ching about how identifying and categorizing things in an attempt to understand them obscures their essence, allowing only their manifestations to be observed. We miss out on so much mystery and wonder by trying to understand things that really can't be explained in the first place. It's like trying to look at your own eyes or ears without a mirror. That's why I think the rainbow laughed.

    1. My thoughts were very similar to Helena's.

For foolish is the man that try's to understand the mind of G_d.

  3. This is going to keep my imagination busy the entire week, what a remarkable maxim! The rainbow knows what we don’t, we always have to explain and make sense of everything. Perhaps there are layers of colors we can’t see. What if we are able to ‘look’ with something other than our sight?

  4. Did it laugh because of your naive answer, or did it laugh because you were right?

  5. How some people feel they can tell the rainbow what it's colors mean is beyond me.... some people think they know so much.

  6. This ranks right up there as one of my faves, Marty. One's truth is one's truth. Sometimes it's shared with others, sometimes it's not.

  7. See me through this: I've been told that the waves of light in which we see color correspond with sound waves. So imagine the sound of a rainbow laughing.
