Stupidity

Cruelty is the surest sign of stupidity.

  1. Hmm...interesting thought. I'm not so sure I agree. I guess it depends on whether the person is being purposely cruel or not.

  2. Cruelty is by definition intentional. I agree with this one.

  3. Agreed. Cruelty isn't blind, it's intentional.

  4. There are 2 kinds of cruelty. Sadistic and callous. The sadist is cruel for cruelty sake and the callous is able to do so, due to a lack of sensitivity ie: emotional intelligence. For that reason, I would only class the second group as stupid. Interesting NP.

  5. I agree. Cruelty is stupidity, and I think insecurity is often the driving force behind it.

  6. Cruelty hurts all, it doesn't help anyone. You're right, there are smarter ways to spend our time and energy! :)

  7. A life of cruelty will inevitable come back to hurt you, so it is defiantly a stupid path to take.

  8. Stupid is as stupid does - cruelty being one incarnation thereof. Nice.

  9. Not necessarily...it's only the hunting instinct taken to its logical conclusion.

  10. I'm not sure I agree with that, although I wish I could. In order for your behavior to be cruel, you have to be aware that it is wrong and that it will cause pain and suffering to another being... And you also have to, to a lesser extent depending on how barbaric the cruelty is, reason out what actions you could take to be cruel, why it would be cruel, and how best to accomplish this with minimal damage to yourself. So I think to be effectively cruel it actually requires a fair amount of emotional, psychological and practical intelligence... which, if I'm right, makes cruelty all the more repulsive and repugnant, because with a fair amount of intelligence in any area you could do so much good in this world
